Tools and Resources from Marketing Your Event with Social Media
LinkedIn
LinkedIn’s Event Pages are hidden away under the “More” menu option from your logged in home page, but worth the trouble to find! Use your event page to post updates that show up in your network and attendee’s notifications. You can also use LinkedIn’s advertising platform to target event promotions by job title and geography.
PR Web
Alert the media! Use a press release service like PR Web to issue online press releases before events to build awareness and interest. As the event approaches, you can issue additional releases to announce confirmation of sessions and speakers, special guests, or contests that will take place during your event. Don’t forget to do a press release following the event to provide a wrap up for those who did not attend (and to build excitement for the next event)!
FourSquare
Make it clear where you want folks to go during an onsite event – incorporate “check-ins” as part of social events or contests. This is a great way to connect people who are attending, as well as build awareness of the event throughout attendees’ networks.
SlideShare
Part of attending any event, from a webinar to a full blown week long conference, is getting the “take home” materials to review later or share with colleagues. Enter SlideShare – simply post your presentation, set your sharing options, and give your attendees the link. SlideShare also does a great job of making it easy for viewers to favorite, share, and embed their favorite presentations.
